Not one, not two but five newly-released wines from Knappstein have received an amazing 91 points or more in this month’s Wine Business Monthly magazine.
In Tyson Stelzer’s own words….
93 points – 2011 Knappstein Hand Picked Riesling
Some entry-level Clare Rieslings suffered in this challenging season, making pristine wines such as this all the more noteworthy. A sniper-precise expression of lemon lime and granny smith apples.
91 points – 2011 Knappstein Three
A clever trio, capturing the florals, lychees and white peach fleshiness of Gewürztraminer, pulled into line by the backbone, structure and lime zest of high acid Riesling, tweaked with Pinot Gris to flesh out the middle.
94 points – 2011 Knappstein Ackland Vineyard Watervale Riesling
The legendary name of Ackland has risen to new levels of spicy exoticism in the cool days of 2011, infused with kaffir lime, fennel, cloves, nut meg and star anise. Its allure makes it a younger-drinking style.
92 points – 2010 Knappstein Clare Valley Shiraz
Ahh, how magnificent is 2010 Clare Shiraz . This might just be the bargain cellaring special of the season, and if you shop around it will live for as many years as the dollars you pay for it.
95 points – 2009 Knappstein Enterprise Vineyard Cabernet Sauvignon
Starship Enterprise boasts a warp drive capable of teleporting it into the next decade at warp 13, thanks to firmly crafted tannins and off-the-planet concentration.
